Ways to fund your team better

Want another $5,000 or $10,000 for your program this year?

Football, basketball and track all work the same way. Fans show up, buy a ticket and pick up a program. Sell the ads in that program, have every player carry a share, and let parents cover the card fee. Five steps, one season.

Four ways your program brings in money

The season in five steps

  1. 1

Pick your number and your prices

Decide the season goal with your booster board before the first practice.

    • Find your size in the table below and write down the goal
    • Set ad sizes and prices: full page $300, half page $150, quarter page $75
    • Offer the back cover and inside covers at a premium
    • Get the board to approve it in one meeting
  2. 2

Give every player a $300 goal

One meeting, one number. The coach announces it; the parents make it happen.

    • Tell players and parents in the first team meeting
    • $300 is one full-page ad, or a half page and a quarter page
    • Parents can buy the ad for their own business, or buy out the goal at registration
    • Post the standings weekly and recognize the top sellers

In Team Scout, set the Player Minimum on the ad campaign. The Ad sales requirement report, under Financials and Reports, shows each player as met or not met.

  3. 3

Sell to businesses that know your families

The first ask is family. The second is anyone whose customers are local parents.

    • Family and extended-family businesses first
    • Dentists, orthodontists, insurance agents, realtors, restaurants, auto shops
    • Bring last year's program, or a one-page sample, to the ask
    • Collect artwork and a logo with every sale

Each player gets a link and a QR code that credit the sale to them. The business picks an ad size, uploads its artwork and pays, in one checkout.

  4. 4

Collect online, and let parents cover the fee

Money goes straight to the program's bank account, credited to the player who sold it.

    • Send each business the player's link to pay by card or bank transfer
    • Record checks and cash the day they arrive, credited to the player
    • Leave the cover-the-fee box on; it starts checked for the payer
    • Check who has reached $300 in one report, and nudge the rest

On the ad checkout, the business sees a box, already checked, to cover the processing fee so the program receives the full ad amount. Donors see the same box on every gift.

  5. 5

Print it and sell it at the gate

Lock the ads two weeks before the first home game, then print.

    • Get two print quotes and order enough for your crowd
    • Sell programs at the gate, or give them away and let the ads pay
    • Thank every advertiser in the program and on your site
    • Ask each advertiser to renew before next season

What it adds up to, by crowd size

Example math. Ads are players times $300. Programs are sold at $5 to one fan in four, across the home schedule. Printing comes out of the total. Put in your own numbers.
